Back in Mexico..

I am back in Mexico.. listening to the football players at night, as the field is right next door, and the roosters in the early hours of the morning.  It is noisy here, but all the noise is happy life.  Each day I wake up and wonder what will unfold.. it is always busy, but nothing is ever urgent.

I walked into a home that was, ready for me.  Like walking into a gorgeous condo for a two week holiday.  Fully furnished and ready to go. The power was on and my bed was made. The big screen tv on the wall is hooked up to Shaw cable, so I can watch Canadian TV.  After almost two years away, the place was clean and the internet was on.  My neighbours and friends had cared for the place while I was away, never knowing for sure when I might be back.  The possum living in my car had been removed and the mechanic cleaned it up and had it running.  It was almost as though I had never left.  My plants, in their pots, had grown and looked better than when I was living there.

Of course, I was in excited work mode.. so within the first few weeks I got rid of two of the couches, gave one to the pool/gardener fellow and the other to a worker.  I replaced them with a new, blue, cloth couch.  Much more comfortable, and pretty.  I bought a bike, which is shit (too powerful!!!). I had blinds put up on the little downstairs patio.. then I had the patio retiled.. I loved those blinds so much I put them on the mirrador and my bedroom.  I got rid of the chandelier in the living room and put a 'normal' boring light that you don't hit your head on.. I got my whole water system cleaned, the tinaca on the roof as well as the habi.. something down below where the water comes in.  I changed the filters on the water system.. whoa nelly.. that was sure necessary!  I put bars on the big window in the office.. that way I can open the window and not worry about it.  I feel safe here, but just better.. and looks great.  And you can see it as the big palm I was so happy with out front was rotting.  It was a big 'wet' this year.. and had to be removed.  I put in a little one.

So.. I have spent a bit of money on this place as well.  And that is just fine.  I know it will need an iflux of cash each year, but it is worth it.. labour is cheap and I feel like I am helping people just giving them odd jobs.  It feels good.  I paid the gardener and the cleaner comes by every couple of weeks and does my floors..

I felt creative and started painting the minute I walked in the door. I bought some more canvas and have been painting abstract cats with the old paints.  Some of the paints are too dried out to save, but most are okay.  I am not buying anymore until I have my art room sorted and the old acrylics used up.  Then I may buy some water colors and make my Christmas cards.

I signed up, and have actually been attending Spanish classes at the LCS.  I have connected with old friends and made a couple new ones.  I have had a couple of massages, some reflexology..

A new grandson/daughter is on the way.  Oh ya!

Life is good.

Today is Monday and I am up early.. the roosters are crowing (I get fresh eggs from the little shop down the street) and I shall straighten up a bit before Rosa arrives to clean.  I will have to get all the paintings off the floor in my bedroom before she arrives.  After she leaves, the tiler, Paco, and his brother will come.  They will want a cold beer and maybe some sort of snack.. this is week four of their weekday visits here.. maybe the last week, but I somehow doubt it.  They show up after their day job and work until it gets dark.  Nothing goes too quickly.  I will take a long walk this morning, and then go for a swim in the afternoon.. both of which I try to do everyday.  I often walk to Ajijic, either to just enjoy the walk, check out the lake, or head to my Spanish lessons.. I may go for coffee with a friend or do some shopping.  Richard, the fruit guy, will drop by about 11:30 and if I am home he will sell me a liltre of chopped up fruit, usually watermelon, pineapple, and papaya this time of year.. that will be my breakfast.  $37 pesos.. $2.25 Canadian.  Well worth it.

Ahh.. Mexico.  That is the overview.. may write about some of the details later this week.. good fun and I soo feel at home here.  So good to be back!

Glad to see you are writing your blog again and I have now caught up on your life over the past 18 months. Your home sounds great. We’ve gone from apartment living to a big house and garden. That’s hard work. No seaview these days but we do look up to the mountains behind Cairns.
